Valerie Chang


Valerie is the CEO of the Pritzker Pucker Family Foundation. She comes to this role with experience in the philanthropic, nonprofit, public and private sectors and a commitment to making positive change. She loves her adopted city of Chicago.

Previously, she spent 19 years at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, serving in multiple roles, including Managing Director of Programs helping to oversee the Foundation’s strategic grantmaking programs and as a member of the leadership team.

Prior to MacArthur, she worked for the national office of LISC, promoting economic development activities through LISC’s network across the country. Before that, she worked in financial services, including at Merrill Lynch and Salomon Brothers, where she conducted research on macroeconomic and political developments in global emerging markets. Earlier in her career, Valerie was an economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. She also worked for the U.S. – China Business Council and taught English at the Hefei Polytechnical University in Anhui, People’s Republic of China.

She has a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Yale University and an M.A. in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
